OUTFITTING AN OUTFITTER...
With an ever-expanding resident base in a resurgent downtown, the demand for retail in Cleveland is on the rise. As the city’s main street, Euclid Avenue was historically lined with ground-floor shops. New restaurants and retailers are reactivating Euclid Avenue and the historic buildings that line it. Geiger’s, a local outdoor lifestyle clothier, has been in business since 1932 with East and Westside locations. To better service downtown residents, workers, and visitors, the retailer decided to open a central third location along Euclid Avenue. The new location exposes and celebrates original interior building elements such as terrazzo floors and decorative plasterwork. The new storefront is designed to be sensitive to the scale and materiality of the historic building’s façade while supporting a modern retail environment.
